Well, Falls Festival is done and dusted for another year.
A rather epic 4 days of the usual Falls Lorne dry, scalding heat in the sun, freezing cold in the shade, dusty, heavily-trodden paths from campsite main stage and that goddamn hill from Valley stage to Grand Theatre stage but, of course, plenty of good vibes
Festival coverage can be hit and miss thanks to high stages and foldback speakers which mean that you’re lucky if you can get a half interesting shot from the waist up and the chances of being able to glimpse a drummer at the back of the stage all virtually nil, let alone getting a good photo of them. Not with Falls this year! Since I last covered a Falls Festival (2008), they’ve built in a permanent main stage which is a great height for good visibility and clean shots.
Highlights for me were old photo favourites that I’ll never be tired of photographing The Hives and The Flaming Lips for their theatrical antics but surprising standouts were Angus Stone and Jinja Safari. And personal musical favourites were Boy & Bear and Lisa Mitchell.
