This was my first Harvest Festival. Last year was the inaugural and I was covering triple j’s Straight to You – tribut to Nick Cave concerts.
But as they say, never buy the first release of anything….by the sounds of last year, it may go the same for the first year of any music festival (reports of last year include running out of food & alcohol by 4pm and not nearly enough toilets to service the crowds which resulted in a very muddy site on a weekend of zero rain…..).
So, my only experience of Harvest Festival is pure bliss. Hand on my heart, the most enjoyable festival I’ve worked at in years. Gorgeous weather, a stunning site, chilled out punters, a relaxed shooting schedule AND Ben Folds Five (my personal highlight) AND Beck (so worth the wait for him to get back to Australia) AND Cake (surprise highlight – not just a novelty-song band) AND Dark Horses (Haven’t heard of them? Neither had I – get on them now!)
That is not to say that Grizzly Bear, Beirut, The Dandy Warhols, Sigur Ros and Silversun Pickups weren’t completely ace though.
Melbourne’s Harvest Festival was photographed for triple j and you can see the full gallery here.
